Board Member Interest Form
Thank you for your interest in serving as a board member on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington (BBBSSWWA)! We are committed to helping children access their own resourcefulness and their own resiliency in order to realize their fullest potential. We are excited you want to be part of something BIG with us.
Confidentiality Note: This application and all of its contents will be kept confidential and on file at the BBBS office. Applications are used by the Board's selection committee to identify and evaluate potential board candidates. All new board members must submit to a national background check before serving.
Board Member Responsibilities and Expectations
- Attend a minimum of seven (7) Board meetings a year and one annual half day retreat. Board meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 12:00 p.m.
- Contribute or secure $1,500 in monetary contributions to the agency.
- Make a serious commitment to participate in annual fundraising events that support the financial success of the agency. You will be asked to talk about your commitment annually with Executive Director or Director of Development.
- Participate in the advancement of the strategic vision of the agency.
- Serve as an ambassador between the organization and the community and make yourself available to meet with potential donors and partners.
- Keep staff informed about concerns in the community about the organization.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully and support the decisions of the full board, whether you agree with all decisions made or not.
- Actively participate on one of three (3) sub committees: Board Development, Funds Development or Board Recruitment.
- Employ, provide guidance and evaluate the Executive Director.
- Carry out the mission, vision and strategic vision of the agency.
- Fulfill the legal responsibilities by adhering to the applicable federal, state and local laws on behalf of the agency.
